One place to start is weight According to Vref, the original Model 35 averages $22,000, but the maximum gross takeoff weight is limited to 2,550 pounds. The final V35Bs added a larger engine and two more seats and topped out at 3,400 pounds.
Many have heard of the V-Tail's reputation as an unsafe aircraft prone to structural failure Early problems with structural failure led the FAA to issue an airworthiness directive decades ago that strengthened the tail boom, and accidents subsequently declined. Tom Turner, a respected safety advocate in the Bonanza community, analyzed NTSB records and found that an average of three V-tail failures per year occurred between 1962 and 2007, mostly in VFR flights, lightning encounters, and aircraft in IMC. Construction Icing Similar Debonairs and Bonanzas A36s suffered only 11 structural failures during the same period. Despite this history, many owners say the V-Lange Bonanza is a safe and reliable airplane that offers the typical Bonanza gravitas for thousands of dollars less in acquisition costs.
